Amazon store name rules you have to respect
Your Amazon seller display name is reviewed by Amazon, and a name that breaks the rules gets rejected or forcibly changed after launch. The rules that catch sellers out:
- No Amazon trademarks. Amazon, Prime, Alexa, Kindle and their variants are off limits anywhere in the name.
- No contact details or URLs. Storefront names cannot contain email addresses, phone numbers or external website addresses.
- No claims or superlatives. "Cheapest", "Official", "Number One" and similar terms trigger review.
- No other brands' trademarks, even if you are an authorized reseller.
- Keep it typeable. Special characters and emoji are stripped or rejected.
Store name versus brand name
The seller display name appears next to "Sold by" on the listing. The brand name is a listing attribute and the value enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry. If you sell one brand, make them identical: shoppers who see the same word twice remember it. If you run multiple brands under one account, keep the seller name neutral and let each brand carry its own identity.
Amazon seller name search: how to confirm nobody else has it
Run the name in Amazon search and filter by seller, run a Google query with site:amazon.com, and check the USPTO and WIPO registers. Also check search interest on Google Trends. If the name already carries volume for something unrelated, your storefront will fight that association forever.
An Amazon seller name list worth studying
Look at how the biggest third-party sellers name themselves: short, invented, and category-free. That last point matters most. A kitchen brand called "Kitchen Supply Co" cannot expand into home or garden, and it will never own a trademark. Build a name with room to grow, then let the listing title carry the keywords. Our A+ content planner covers how to reinforce the brand once the name is locked.
